The design team was tasked with updating the look and feel of Houston’s iconic Williams Tower while still preserving the architecture of the Phillip Johnson Skyscraper. The lobby, lounge and skybridge were all in the scope which aimed to create a new welcoming experience for tenants and visitors. Large backlit LED panels behind laser-cut steel patterns create a dramatic backdrop to the security desk, serving as both signage and wayfinding. These panels span both levels, visually connecting the floors and giving a sense of scale. Continuous linear wallwash slots sleekly illuminate the building’s original pink granite walls while the skybridge lighting takes on a coordinated but different look with linear pendants and recessed fixtures intersecting at various angles. Custom hanging light fixtures were chosen strategically to move the eye throught the double height spaces while setting the tone for the overall space.
